Role Overview
Our client is a trusted Accounting and Fractional CFO Services firm headquartered in Vancouver, BC, committed to empowering individuals and businesses through financial clarity since 2021. As the founder prepares to grow the team, we're looking for a Senior Bookkeeper who can act as a strategic right hand—a leader who is passionate about full-cycle accounting, operational excellence, and mentoring others.
This is a high-impact role for someone excited by the opportunity to own processes, build systems, and eventually lead a small team of bookkeepers, all while working closely with the founder to shape the future of the firm.
Responsibilities
Source Data Entry & General Ledger Management: Validate and maintain accurate records.
Reconciliations: Bank, credit card, assets, liabilities, sub-ledgers, including foreign currency transactions.
Month-End Closing: Adjusting and accrual journal entries.
Trial Balance Review: Investigate discrepancies and report results.
Compliance Returns & Filing: Handle HST/GST, PST, Payroll, WSBC filings; oversee regulatory compliance.
Financial Reporting: Create detailed reports weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
Year-End Preparation: Coordinate with tax accountants; assist with personal and corporation tax filing (asset).
Take ownership of full-cycle bookkeeping processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
Develop, document, and refine internal processes to support scale and consistency across clients.
Support hiring, onboarding, and training of future bookkeeping staff, ensuring clear SOPs and accountability structures.
Mentor and manage junior bookkeepers (once hired), offering guidance, support, and quality assurance.
Collaborate closely with the founder, providing insights, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing improvements.
Communicate proactively with clients and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver exceptional service.
Maintain compliance with accounting standards and internal financial policies.
Manage financial systems implementation, integration, and optimization.
Requirements
4+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience, ideally in a client-facing or multi-entity environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Profile Tax (or similar), and QuickBooks Online (2+ years).
Demonstrated leadership experience, such as managing or mentoring junior team members, owning processes, or leading projects.
Proven ability to build and document systems, onboard team members, and drive process improvements.
Comfortable working independently, making decisions, and taking initiative.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Quick adaptability to new systems and eagerness to learn (e.g., Canadian tax and payroll standards).
Experience working in a remote team or start-up/entrepreneurial environment (preferred).
Located in Latin America and available to work PST hours.
Willing to be paid in Canadian dollars.
Advanced English skills, written and spoken.
